“There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward.” – Kahlil Gibran
My friend Jason of www.jasonsnetwork.com “Social Networking for Spiritual People” recently asked: Are we as human beings truly capable of unconditional love or are there often strings attached that even the most spiritual among us can’t avoid?
I believe the answer is maybe with a Big “BUT!” I love to watch Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer, they both have been branded incorrectly with the tag, “Prosperity Ministers”. Personally, I believe they are Love Ministers that focus on the positive message of God, the God of Love and Healing. However, to be honest I understand where the tag has come from, in fact I have found myself excited after a show about the prospect of receiving based on my giving. In fact, I have found myself confused at my own motives at times. I tithe but quite frankly I often find myself thinking thoughts such as “ok, that is $3,000 heading my way!”
Early in recovery while studying the seventh step, “Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings”. I learned a giving principle to attain humility, a humble spirit. It was suggested that I give something to someone either that I know or do not know that is in need and do not let them know it was me and do not tell a soul, ever! I must be honest that was a difficult task. Humility at it’s finest. Lets settle to say I believe this principle has helped me big time.
I do not think it is possible to be 100% pure in our giving. I believe as sacreligious as it may sound that even Mother Teresa had a motive. Maybe simply the motive of Joy! Yet a motive. No matter, the giving principle is a tool for Humility, Spirituality, and Joy. I believe it is what the Creator wants of us, to give Joyfully! It is my Mission.
Peace,
Dan 🙂
