We Have Ceased Fighting!

And we have ceased fighting anything or anyone— even alcohol. — Big Book, p. 84

The Big Book was written with exceptional insight into the human condition. Throughout the books first 164 pages and specifically in chapter three, “More on Alcoholism” Bill is a wordsmith. He uses suggestion, possibility and the analogy of the “Jaywalker” with genius to make the point that this is an insidious condition we face. Those of us that have overcome this do so through surrender and not fight.

Bill and the other authors of the book took extreme care not to alienate anyone. They knew human nature and they knew that if they had a drunk reading the book not to push them into any corners. They made suggestion and in chapter three’s case analogy. Allow the individual to decide for themselves where they stand. They knew that when you push, people push back. They knew that if we are going to make it we had to stop fighting, make the decision to change and implement a strategy that works.

I am grateful that they knew this and did not allow their ego’s to tell the world how to get it done, they simply told their story on how they did it. Wow! Life is good…

Go, Go, Go…
