“Everyone is shy – it is the inborn modesty that makes us able to live in harmony with other creatures and our fellows. Achievement comes not by denying shyness but, occasionally by setting it aside and letting pride and perspiration come first.” – Kirkpatrick Sale
I truly thought I was unique! When I tell people I am shy they often laugh and think I am joking. I am outgoing and funny but, on the inside I am shy. At parties or in crowd most of my thinking is how much longer before I can leave. I love people and I enjoy being with people I just get a bit shy!
Why would I tell you this? The point is that an essential principle in recovery is maintenance of our Spiritual condition. I believe a great way to develop a Spiritual presence is to give it away to others. What is it? Simply sobriety or recovery from addiction. We need to step out of our comfort zone and put our hand out to help others and by doing so we get back ten-fold what we give!
Thus the gift odf giving it away? A happy, joyous and free recovered life!
