Overcoming Resentment

Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die.  ~Malachy McCourt

There was a new self help recovery meeting started a few blocks from a great meeting I attended regularly.  I said to someone that is weird why wouldn’t they continue to come here?  The response stands out today, “a resentment and a coffee pot, is all it takes to expand”!  Now this is a bit twisted however it is sometimes true.  The same goes for resentment in our personal lives, it is certainly hurting us yet it has the potential to assist us in out growth if we do not fester in it!  For those of us recovering from alcoholism or addiction this resentment is dangerous unless we utilize it to change ourselves and our attitude.

I was sharing about a serious issue I had in my life.  I was angry and resentful.  I remember Duff McGee’s advice to me he said Danny pray that she gets everything you want in life and more.  I took that advice and continue to utilize it today when faced with resentment.  I can not afford to walk around carrying anger and resentment towards another human being.  It is my responsibility to do something about it.  What can I do?  Change myself and my attitude toward the situation.

As I get better the situation does as well!  Go, Go, Go…
