“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” – Henry David Thoreau
As I was confronted head on with my alcoholism and drug abuse one of my fears or better stated excuses to not address my abuse head on was the idea that I would be different. That everyone else was doing it, so why not me? What would I do if I did not party? What would my life be like if I did not drink alcohol or use drugs? Living life without smoking a joint and listening to loud rock and roll music? What a bore life would be!
Recovery revealed a new life for me. A life of leadership. A life of joy and pleasure. Beginning to walk to the beat of a different drummer took courage. But the rewards have now become more than apparent. I love to awaken in the morning and not wonder or worry about what I did yesterday or must face today! Recovery became the life of freedom. Addiction was a life of bondage, following the crowd only lead to disaster!
Is the recovered life a better life for you? Tell us why.
Go, Go, Go…
